Is your washing machine a little stinky? You may have some mould/mildew built up

Published: Jan 09, 2017

Front load washers use less water and energy which could result in mildew, mould and detergent residue buildup.

Here are 4 steps on how I clean my washing machine:

What You Need:

  • Spray bottle with vinegar

  • Vinegar (to run through the clean cycle)

  • Water

  • Rags

  • Scrub pad

What To Do:

(1) Clean the Rubber Gasket:

  • Spray the rubber gasket inside and out

  • With a light scouring pad scrub the inside to remove all debris. Its possible that some debris could be blocking the drainage holes

(2) Clean the Drum

  • Spray and wipe the inside of the drum.

(3) Clean the Detergent Dispenser Container

  • It can be removed for easy cleaning

  • Replace the dispenser container once clean

(4) Run a Clean Cycle

  • Add a 1/4 cup of vinegar to the laundry detergent dispenser and start a clean cycle.

  • If you don’t have a clean cycle on your washer use the hottest and longest cycle available.

  • Optional run a second rinse cycle to ensure all the vinegar is removed.

Tips:

  • After every wash I leave my washer door open slightly and the laundry detergent dispenser container pulled out (open) to allow air flow. This helps to dry the tub and avoid mildew build up.

  • I do a cleaning on mine twice per year
